Overview

In this role you will underwrite and manage a profitable inland marine portfolio, focusing on sustainable growth and long-term retention. You will forge strong broker relationships and determine appropriate coverage, terms, and pricing while ensuring timely issuance and servicing of high-quality policies. You will monitor performance, support planning and governance, and contribute to the development of less experienced underwriters. This position offers the chance to influence risk selection and profitability within a collaborative, innovative company culture.

Responsibilities
  • Underwrite inland marine risks via detailed analysis of submissions (loss history, financial strength, inspection reports).
  • Structure coverage terms, limits, deductibles, and pricing in line with risk characteristics and guidelines.
  • Manage broker and client relationships to drive profitable growth, retention, and cross-selling.
  • Ensure accurate issuance and ongoing management of policies and endorsements per standards and regulatory requirements.
  • Monitor portfolio performance (exposure, premium, claims activity) and provide underwriting input on claim resolution.
  • Support planning, forecasting, and underwriting governance initiatives.
  • Contribute to underwriting governance through peer review, referral support, and training of junior underwriters.
Key requirements
  • 5+ years of inland marine underwriting experience
  • Strong knowledge of inland marine forms, terms, and conditions
  • Proven producer and broker management skills with profitability focus
  • Excellent analytical, communication, and interpersonal skills
  • Bachelor's degree preferred (or equivalent experience)
