Overview In this role you translate feasibility-stage concepts into robust, scalable production methods for silicone- and acrylic-based ophthalmic materials. You will build mechanistic and data-driven understanding of material behavior, lead process development, and guide transfer to manufacturing while collaborating across Engineering, Manufacturing, Quality, Regulatory, and R&D. You will tackle variability, improve process robustness, and enable reliable high-quality production at scale. Responsibilities- Lead development activities from feasibility through process development and manufacturing transfer
- Understand interactions between material properties, process conditions, tooling, and product performance
- Design and execute studies to reduce variability and establish process understanding
- Investigate sources of variation using root-cause analysis
- Develop mechanistic models and data-driven hypotheses to guide improvements
- Apply DOE and statistical analysis to identify key process drivers
- Characterize curing, molding, handling, and processing of silicone- and acrylic-based materials
- Evaluate material-process interactions for final product quality and manufacturability
- Develop and document process parameters, controls, and methods for scale-up and transfer
- Present findings and recommendations to teams and senior management
- Support troubleshooting in development- and pilot-scale manufacturing processes
Key requirements- Strong understanding of polymeric materials, especially silicones, acrylics, hydrogels, or soft-materials
- Experience with polymer processing, curing, molding, scale-up, or process development
- Ability to link materials, processing, microstructure, and performance
- Strong root-cause investigation and troubleshooting skills
- Experience developing mechanistic understanding through experimentation
- Proficiency in statistics, DOE, multivariate analysis, and process capability assessment
- Ability to analyze large datasets and translate findings into improvements
- Experience with materials characterization techniques (rheology, spectroscopy, thermal analysis, microscopy, mechanical testing)
