Overview

In this role, you will manage and develop a highly complex book of Excess & Surplus business, applying advanced underwriting expertise to ground-up monoline policies. You'll price, endorse, and steer risk selection while aligning with compliance and market dynamics. You will mentor peers and collaborate with agencies and brokers to drive profitable outcomes. This hybrid position offers cross-market exposure and a path to leadership within CNA's National Accounts Property team.

Responsibilities
  • Underwrite highly complex risks using diagnostic analysis and develop specialized endorsement language
  • Set pricing for complex risks based on financial and competitive analysis in line with compliance
  • Advise on underwriting policy and pricing strategy
  • Analyze profitability and present management reports on high-risk portfolios
  • Market CNA products via agencies/brokers and conduct field visits
  • Build and maintain relationships with large producers to achieve profitable outcomes
  • Stay current on state/territory issues, regulations, and industry trends
  • Mentor less experienced underwriters and contribute to underwriting training
  • Utilize CNA systems for day-to-day activities and manage special underwriting projects and presentations
Key requirements
  • Advanced underwriting expertise and broad knowledge of insurance principles and practices
  • Strong communication, negotiation, and presentation skills with internal and external partners
  • Advanced analytical and problem-solving abilities with multi-project prioritization
  • Ability to navigate ambiguous situations and develop creative solutions
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and related business software
  • Demonstrated leadership skills
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience; professional designations preferred
  • Typically 8+ years of underwriting experience; 3-10+ years depending on role level
