Overview In this role you will lead and manage multiple tax engagements for privately held and middle-market clients, delivering high-quality tax compliance, planning, and advisory services. You will act as a trusted client advisor and collaborate with Partners to identify planning opportunities and mitigate risks. At Director level you contribute to business development and practice growth. You will stay current on tax developments and ensure quality, risk management, and client service at scale.

Responsibilities- Plan, manage, and oversee tax compliance engagements for closely held and middle-market businesses (partnerships, S corporations, C corporations)
- Review complex federal, state, and local income tax returns and related workpapers for accuracy and compliance
- Serve as primary client contact and trusted advisor on complex tax matters
- Understand client businesses, industries, ownership, and objectives to identify planning opportunities and risks
- Advise on tax implications of business decisions, structures, and initiatives
- Identify and implement tax strategies to minimize tax burden while maintaining compliance
- Collaborate with Tax Partners to develop and execute tax planning and compliance strategies
- Perform and oversee technical tax research and prepare supporting memoranda
- Analyze complex tax issues and communicate findings to clients and Partners
- Identify tax risks and escalate significant positions to the Partner
- Manage notices, examinations, and correspondence with authorities
- Manage multiple engagements, including scope, staffing, budgets, deadlines, and service delivery
- Review work of Associates and Senior Associates and provide feedback
- Supervise, coach, and mentor tax professionals; support their development
- Participate in staff scheduling and resource planning
- Collaborate with other Tax, Audit, and Advisory teams to address broader client needs
- Identify opportunities to expand client relationships through additional Firm services
- At Director level, contribute to new business development, client relationship growth, and strategic leadership
- Stay current on federal/state tax legislation and developments impacting clients
- Maintain high standards of quality, client service, and risk management
Key requirements- 7+ years of progressive tax experience in a public accounting firm
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting; Master's preferred
- Active CPA license or Enrolled Agent designation
- Significant experience serving privately held and middle-market clients across industries
- Strong technical knowledge of federal corporate and partnership taxation
- Experience reviewing complex business tax returns and related workpapers
- Knowledge of tax compliance and planning for closely held businesses and owners
- Experience resolving complex federal/state tax matters and notices
- Ability to translate complex tax concepts into practical client recommendations
- Experience managing multiple engagements, relationships, budgets, and teams
- Leadership experience supervising and mentoring staff
- Proven business development and cross-selling capabilities (preferred at Director level)
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office and tax software; experience with CCH Axcess, CCH Engagement, BNA Tax Planner preferred
