Overview In this role you lead Building Specialty Services, guiding technical excellence and business strategy in building science. You will influence envelope design, field testing, and construction services for new and rehab projects in the US Northeast. Your leadership will drive project delivery on time and within budget while mentoring staff and advancing thought leadership. Responsibilities- Define project scope and design criteria for complex building envelope services
- Review design docs, shop drawings and submittals for water intrusion, air leakage, vapor diffusion, thermal performance, and movement
- Lead preparation of contract drawings and specifications with the project team
- Conduct field reviews on new and rehabilitation projects to verify envelope assemblies against mock-ups and designs
- Prepare site visit reports and track action items to close deficiencies
- Perform field testing of envelope elements and report results against performance standards
- Solve unusual project problems with innovative approaches or applying established criteria
- Interface with architects, general contractors and trades
- Provide expert advice on design processes or construction methods
- Perform forensic analysis of envelope failures
- Lead and manage project teams (1-5 staff) to deliver on time and budget
- Lead business development and proposals, and mentor staff
- Deliver technical presentations and thought leadership in building science
- Travel regionally and work on active construction sites
- Mentor entry level staff in technical and non-technical skills
Key requirements- Minimum 10 years of experience in assessing, detailing, testing and/or constructing building envelope systems
- Strong understanding of flashing, waterproofing, roofing, cladding, rain screens, air barriers and related systems
- Registered Professional
- Bachelor's Degree in Engineering, Architecture, or Science with Building Science background
- Knowledge of energy code, rain screen principles, air barriers, and thermal performance
- Proficient with Microsoft Office; experience with Bluebeam, CAD and/or Revit
- Project management skills for concurrent projects with budgets above $200,000
- Ability to work in a team with strong customer service commitment
- Weekly regional travel and ability to work on active construction sites
- Valid driver's license and clean Motor Vehicle Record
