Cortez - Underground Operations General Supervisor

Overview

In this role you lead safety-focused underground operations at Cortez, guiding supervisors and crews to meet mine plans and production targets. You will partner with engineering, geology, and maintenance teams to deliver safe, compliant, and efficient performance. You shape workforce capability, execute long- and short-range plans, and foster a culture of ownership and continuous improvement. Responsibilities
  • Provide field Leadership to support and coach supervisors, ensuring work is performed safely and to standard
  • Lead workforce planning: staffing, training, competency development, performance management
  • Hold employees and leaders accountable to safety, operational and behavioral expectations
  • Ensure clear communication across crews, shifts, departments, and leadership
  • Coordinate shift-to-shift pass-downs and weekly plan execution
  • Drive compliance with mine plans, production targets, and priorities
  • Collaborate with Engineering, Geology, Geotechnical, Maintenance to develop mine plans
  • Monitor KPIs, perform variance analysis, and implement corrective actions
  • Enforce safety, ground support, ventilation, travelways, and operational procedures
  • Oversee equipment, mobile fleet, infrastructure, and maintenance programs
  • Participate in inspections, audits, and continuous improvement initiatives
  • Manage costs through efficient labor, materials, and equipment use
  • Promote ownership, teamwork, and operational excellence across responsibilities
  • Support achievement of monthly, quarterly, and annual production objectives
Key requirements
  • Ten years of verifiable maintenance experience
  • Five years of supervisory or lead experience (preferred)
  • Experience in a planned maintenance environment (preferred)
  • Ability to read blueprints and schematics
  • Professional communication skills with diverse employees
  • Strong leadership and influencing abilities
  • Proficient with Word, Excel, PowerPoint
  • Valid driver's license
  • Commitment to safe work culture
  • Ability to drive manual transmission mine tractor and other company vehicles
