Overview As a Resident Engineer, you will lead major transportation design-build and CMGC projects in Southern California, working with Caltrans and regional agencies. You will manage design, construction, and interface with clients, guiding interdisciplinary teams to deliver sustainable, resilient infrastructure. This is a hands-on, seller/doer role that blends technical leadership with client-facing project management. You'll influence project execution and safety plans while driving on-time, on-budget delivery in a dynamic, collaborative environment.

Responsibilities- Provide direction to staff to ensure contract records, progress, budget, and work orders comply with regulations
- Interface with contractors to ensure plan compliance and quality of work
- Perform field inspections and material testing for compliance
- Prepare and review daily reports and as-built documentation
- Manage project records, schedules, budgets, and changes (change orders)
- Lead or support contract change analyses and potential redesigns
- Review CPM schedules and identify project risks; resolve disputes
- Mobilize resources to assemble project teams and ensure quality deliverables
- Represent the company in pre-construction and construction phases with clients and subcontractors
- Negotiate scope changes and assist with marketing to secure additional work
- Oversee safety, QA/QC, and project execution plans and ensure deliverables meet criteria
- Collaborate with operations, proposals, and other teams to win projects and develop proposals
- Develop action plans to mitigate cost overruns or delays
- Engage with regulatory agencies and public meetings as needed
- Ensure project goals align with budgets, schedules, and plans
- Promote quality and technical excellence on projects
Key requirements- Bachelor's degree in civil engineering or project management
- Registered civil engineer in California
- 10+ years of engineering management experience on road/highway and related infrastructure
- Experience with Caltrans projects
- Strong client interfacing and project management skills
- Hands-on technical capability with design-build and CMGC delivery methods
- Ability to lead interdisciplinary teams and manage budgets and schedules
