Senior Estimator, Transmission (Hybrid Schedule)

Overview

In this role, you will develop estimates for major electric transmission projects across the three-state area and ensure scope clarity to support accurate cost estimation. You will collaborate with engineering, planning, procurement, and other stakeholders to account for risks and contingencies and drive estimate accuracy. You will use best practices to incorporate direct, indirect, and overhead costs, maintain estimating tools, and support process improvements. This position offers impact through standardizing templates, QA/QC, and presenting findings to leadership. You'll help shape project budgeting in a large utility environment.

Responsibilities
  • Develop estimates for major projects (typically > $1M)
  • Standardize cost estimating templates across three-state territory
  • Collaborate with discipline engineering and support services for accurate estimates
  • Identify and quantify project risks and contingency impacts
  • Present estimates to management during review processes
  • Incorporate direct, indirect, support costs and overheads into estimates
  • Support cost estimating tools and databases for documentation and updates
  • Contribute to process improvement programs and KPI metrics
  • Assist QA/QC measures and coordination with Major Projects, Engineering, Operations
Key requirements
  • 8+ years in technical, operational, estimating or engineering roles in the electrical utility/construction industry
  • 4+ years in relevant job aspects; transmission experience strongly preferred
  • Bachelor in Engineering or similar discipline; focus in electrical engineering or estimating preferred
  • Knowledge of transmission and substation planning, engineering, maintenance, and operations
  • Ability to interpret and analyze financial documents
  • Strong communication and presentation skills
  • Ability to develop and leverage collaborative relationships
  • Project Accounting System Knowledge (Power Plan - FSSP)
  • Comprehensive Electric Industry Estimating knowledge
  • Expert knowledge of Microsoft Excel and Word
  • Experience with an estimating system desired
  • No licenses or certifications required
