Overview As Claims Counsel at USLI, you guide complex litigation and coverage analysis to support claims teams. You act as an internal coverage expert, overseeing disputes and drafting decisive letters and opinions. You work with outside counsel on litigated matters and drive settlements within authorized authority. You stay current on coverage case law and share insights to inform company-wide claims knowledge. This role blends legal expertise with cross-functional collaboration to shape coverage strategy and claims outcomes.

Responsibilities- Serve as internal claims counsel to support claims adjusters
- Identify, evaluate, and analyze coverage issues
- Draft comprehensive coverage and denial letters for policyholders
- Oversee litigation by managing outside counsel
- Negotiate settlements within evaluation and authority levels
- Perform legal research and provide opinions to claims personnel
- Monitor coverage case law and prepare summaries for company-wide dissemination
- Travel occasionally
Key requirements- Juris Doctorate (JD)
- 1 to 5 years of law firm/litigation experience and/or 3-7 years of claims handling experience
- Good working knowledge of Westlaw and efficient legal research abilities
- Strong negotiation abilities
