Operations Director - Mechanical Construction

Overview

In this role you will lead the Data Center construction operations to deliver safe, on-time, and high-quality projects. You'll partner with sales, operations, and business units to win and execute work aligned with McKinstry capabilities. You'll steer staffing, planning, and process improvements to drive efficiency and profitability. This is a chance to shape data center delivery at scale while advancing McKinstry's mission to reduce climate harm in the built environment. You will work across cross-functional teams and contribute to continuous improvement and lessons-learned initiatives.

Responsibilities
  • Hire, coach, and performance manage team members in line with McKinstry values
  • Lead monthly Operations Management Meetings and contribute to All-Hands and Operations Reviews
  • Participate in department forecasting, annual planning, and staffing alignment with project needs
  • Coordinate safety, supply chain, quality, construction operations, PM, and business development activities
  • Improve efficiency and reduce re-work by evaluating processes and WIP against targets
  • Schedule manpower requirements with sales, PMs, and labor leaders; oversee procurement visibility
  • Ensure adherence to standard procedures for personnel and budgeted labor hours
  • Oversee shop operations, logistics, and union/contracts considerations
  • Develop and retain talent; lead post-project lessons learned sessions for continuous improvement
  • Support bid reviews, constructability input, and client meetings with the sales team
Key requirements
  • 10+ years of industry experience - data center experience preferred
  • 7+ years of project management experience
  • 7+ years of experience leading people
  • Strong business acumen
  • Proficient in forecasting and managing cost types
