Junior Estimator

Overview

In this role you will develop and refine project estimates to support bids and project execution. You'll work within a collaborative estimating team to assess scope, costs, and risks for civil construction projects in roadwork, utilities, and related infrastructure. You will interact with design teams, preconstruction, and operations to craft clear estimates and comply with owner and subcontractor requirements. The position offers growth in self-perform capabilities and value engineering within a large, safety-conscious company.

Responsibilities
  • Prepare complete quantity take-offs
  • Identify project scope for self-perform and subcontracted work
  • Interpret project documents to prepare estimates, general conditions, and bid clarifications
  • Inform preconstruction staff of project requirements and develop plans to meet goals
  • Manage multiple projects simultaneously
  • Develop value engineering solutions to meet client budgets
  • Identify and qualify subcontractors
  • Attend preconstruction meetings with design team and client
  • Prepare bid clarifications and assumptions for owner submission
  • Investigate local market conditions and their impact on costs
  • Plan, organize, and coordinate effectively
  • Attend technical and professional meetings as necessary
  • Establish timelines and goals for estimate submissions
  • Represent company capabilities to potential clients
  • Ensure quality of services meet project requirements
  • Ensure effective communication across disciplines on estimates
  • Provide risk and cost comparison analyses
  • Utilize Microsoft Project and/or Primavera P6 for scheduling
Key requirements
  • B.S. in Construction Management, Engineering, or equivalent progressive work experience with 3+ years of estimating civil construction projects, or 6+ years of experience in lieu of education
  • Demonstrated knowledge of heavy civil construction, earthwork, underground utilities, drainage, and street/highway construction
  • Experience with self-perform work
