Overview

As a Senior Estimator at Stantec you will lead the development and coordination of multi-discipline cost estimates for building and facility projects across various sectors. You will guide a team of estimators and work with schedulers and engineers to deliver robust estimates for projects ranging from $1M to $2B. Your role combines technical estimating with project coordination to ensure accurate, defendable cost plans. Responsibilities
  • Supervise and coordinate multi-discipline cost estimates and construction schedules
  • Develop detailed estimates for architectural systems, building envelope, interiors, finishes, doors/hardware, specialties, vertical circulation, structural steel, concrete, foundations, and related components
  • Collaborate with other estimators to develop estimates and schedules
  • Coordinate input parameters for estimates and schedules
  • Validate material takeoffs and construction quantities from drawings
  • Compile information from all estimating disciplines into a single cost estimate
  • Develop estimate execution plans including strategy, scope assumptions, methodologies, staffing, and schedules
  • Prepare labor-force work plans for estimating activities
  • Prepare basis of cost estimate reports for end users
  • Establish site-specific estimating criteria including wage and productivity rates
  • Quality control of construction documents and provide design ideas/solutions
  • Support procurement, change orders, and quotes integration into estimates
  • Prepare construction logistics plans and offer innovative solutions to estimating issues
  • Interface with management and client counterparts for estimating tasks
  • Identify, assess, and quantify project risks and opportunities and contribute to risk analyses
  • Review design documents to identify risks and opportunities for pricing
  • Prepare and coordinate constructability reviews
  • Serve as primary cost estimating contact for clients and external stakeholders
  • Maintain awareness of industry trends and apply lessons learned to improve estimates
  • Travel as needed for site reconnaissance and client interfacing
  • Mentor team members in estimating techniques and methodologies
  • Maintain strong client-facing relationships and provide clear communication on scope and estimate defensibility
Key requirements
  • Extensive technical knowledge of cost/estimating and construction practice
  • Experience estimating buildings and facilities across commercial, industrial, institutional, or infrastructure-adjacent types
  • Strong expertise in architectural/structural scopes (steel, concrete, foundations, envelope, finishes, partitions, etc.)
  • Multi-discipline estimating experience with ability to coordinate multiple scopes
  • Advanced understanding of contract methods in estimating
  • Experience with InEight Estimate, Sage Timberline Estimating, On-Screen Take-Off, MCASES MII, IPE, HCSS or similar platforms
  • Experience with scheduling software (Primavera P6, MS Project)
  • Willingness to travel domestically and internationally as needed
  • Proven ability to plan, organize, direct, perform, review, and present cost estimates
  • Problem-solving with professional judgment and creativity
  • Ability to mentor team members in estimating techniques
  • Strong client-facing skills and ability to interface with stakeholders
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Construction Management, Quantity Surveying, Operations Management, or related field (minimum 10 years in estimating/construction)
  • Professional certifications such as AACE, RICS, ASPE, PMI, DBIA are assets
