Overview In this role you help shape the firm's energy practice by advising on power transactions, market design, and regulatory matters within a leading environment, energy & resources group. You will work with developers, utilities, and corporate buyers to navigate complex federal and state frameworks and contribute to energy transition initiatives. The role combines transactional drafting with regulatory strategy, offering exposure to high-stakes proceedings and policy developments. Responsibilities- Negotiate and draft power purchase agreements and energy service agreements for diverse clients
- Advise on electric market design issues within PJM, MISO, SPP, ERCOT, CAISO
- Represent clients in FERC proceedings and advise on compliance with market-based rate programs
- Counsel on emerging energy policy, renewable integration, and carbon-free procurement strategies
- Stay current on power market mechanics and regulatory developments
Key requirements- 3-6 years of energy law experience (regulatory and transactional)
- Familiarity with the Federal Power Act and power market mechanics
- Ability to draft bespoke energy contracts
- JD from accredited law school; admitted to practice or eligible to waive in the jurisdiction
