CLIA Laboratory Manager - Anatomic Pathology

Overview

In this role you lead a CLIA- and CAP-accredited lab delivering clinical-trial testing services. You will ensure regulatory compliance, quality oversight, and efficient operations while developing staff and supporting business development. You'll present capabilities to customers and collaborate with cross-functional partners in a fast-paced setting. You drive continuous improvement and maintain rigorous QA in a mission-driven, precision-medicine environment.

Responsibilities
  • Oversee daily laboratory operations, staffing, and resource planning to ensure timely service delivery
  • Ensure compliance with CLIA, CAP, NYSDOH and related regulations; manage licenses and inspections readiness
  • Develop and maintain quality management systems, SOPs, QC programs, proficiency testing, and corrective actions
  • Supervise and develop laboratory staff; conduct performance reviews and ensure competency before testing
  • Support business development by presenting clinical-trial services capabilities to customers
Key requirements
  • Bachelor of Science in Medical Technology or equivalent with 4+ years in a high-complexity testing lab with a doctoral-level Laboratory Director
  • Alternative: Master's in a life sciences field with 4+ years in high-complexity clinical lab with director
  • PhD in life sciences with 2+ years in high-complexity lab with director
  • Current California CLS generalist license
  • 3+ years of people leadership experience
  • Experience in clinical-trial testing, immunohistochemistry, histology, and anatomic pathology
  • Hands-on willingness to perform laboratory tasks
  • Knowledge of SOP development, document writing, and validation of LDTs for companion diagnostics
  • Effective communication (verbal and written)
