Overview In this role you will contribute to the design and layout of piping systems for water projects, functioning as part of a larger project team under senior guidance. You will develop 3D piping layouts and P&IDs, coordinate with other trades, and apply engineering standards and codes to deliver a coordinated 3D model. You'll work hands-on with CAD/BIM tools to support design decisions and construct reliable piping solutions. Responsibilities- 3D layout and design of piping and instrumentation drawings using AutoCAD Plant 3D
- 2D layout and design of piping & instrumentation drawings with AutoCAD Plant 3D P&ID software
- Coordinate 3D content with Revit in Navisworks to ensure clash-free models
- Review third-party drawings to extract required design details
- Perform basic piping component calculations using standard software
- Generate and review pipe spool or pipe isometric drawings from the 3D model
- Collaborate with architectural, building mechanical, civil, electrical, and structural teams for a coordinated model
- Interpret drawings and codes relevant to equipment and piping design
- Act as Designer in process mechanical for water treatment, focusing on piping and equipment layout
- Check others' work for accuracy and manage time to meet budgets/schedules
- Assist with engineering duties on projects of varying complexity related to 3D piping design
- Work on multiple projects and on site to gain real-world coordination experience
- Utilize point clouds to inform 3D design and participate in project team discussions
- Engage in creative and critical thinking within a project team
- Perform other duties as assigned by senior designers
Key requirements- Advanced understanding of AutoCAD Plant 3D and proficient drafting/design capability
- Knowledge and application of relevant codes, standards, and design guidelines
- Strong understanding of project document production and relationships between drawings and specs
- Solid knowledge of process mechanical systems, hydraulics, materials, and industry standards
- Good written and verbal communication for teamwork and collaboration
- Strong presentation and interview skills
- Ability to prioritize and manage multiple projects
- Ability to take direction and incorporate feedback from senior designers/engineers
- Basic understanding of hydraulics and how piping affects fluid flow
- Familiarity with point cloud interfacing and point cloud software (preferred: Cintoo or Recap) and Revit-Bentley interoperability (preferred)
- Experience with 3D CAD-based software, Navisworks, BIM360/ACC/Forma (Autodesk Construction Cloud)
