Overview As Senior Design Manager, you will lead the design process for a £400m+ mixed-use development in Bedfordshire, guiding feasibility through delivery. You will split time between the pre-construction London office and the Bedfordshire site, shaping design information to meet programme and commercial goals. You will coordinate external consultants, ensure regulatory and contractual compliance, and maintain strong cross functional collaboration to drive on-site delivery. This is a high-impact role with long-term involvement on a major project.

Responsibilities- Lead and coordinate the design process across pre-construction and delivery
- Collaborate with client, consultants, subcontractors and site teams
- Review design information for buildability, quality and technical compliance
- Manage performance and output of external design consultants
- Identify and resolve design risks before they affect programme or cost
- Support procurement by ensuring design packages are complete and issued on time
- Maintain clear communication between design, commercial and construction teams
- Ensure designs meet current regulations, contract requirements and company standards
Key requirements- At least 10 years' experience in design management within a main contractor environment
- Strong pre-construction and project delivery experience
- Experience on large, complex construction or mixed-use developments
- Good knowledge of design coordination, buildability and technical compliance
- Confident managing consultants and working with clients and delivery teams
- Previous experience as Senior Design Manager, Design Manager, Technical Manager, Design Coordinator or Design and Build Manager
- HNC in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, Architecture or related discipline
- Strong planning and organisational skills
