Overview

As a Senior General Ledger Accountant, you will contribute advanced expertise to general ledger activities, reconciliations, and financial reporting for Commonwealth Savers. You will support month-end, quarter-end, and year-end closes and help prepare the Annual Comprehensive Financial Report. Your role involves complex reconciliations, data analysis, and collaboration with management and stakeholders to ensure compliance with accounting standards. Responsibilities
  • Perform all aspects of general ledger accounting, including recording, processing, reconciling, and reporting; support monthly, quarterly, and year-end closes
  • Develop highly complex financial reconciliations and communicate results to management; prepare schedules for internal and external reporting
  • Process program redeposits, reversals, and settlement corrections according to policies
  • Analyze data from financial systems and prepare internal/external reports and financial analysis
  • Monitor accounting guidance and implement GASB and other standards with Finance management
  • Train staff on reporting, reconciliation, and analysis tools; collaborate with stakeholders to ensure compliance
Key requirements
  • Seven or more years of relevant governmental accounting/finance experience with knowledge of GAAP, budgeting, and financial reporting; CPA preferred
  • Experience with Commonwealth accounting procedures and policies preferred
  • Strong ability to read and interpret complex accounting records and statements
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills with attention to detail and deadlines
  • Master level proficiency with Microsoft Excel; proficiency with Word and PowerPoint
  • Experience with financial systems and general ledger software; Frontier Reconciliation Software a plus
  • Knowledge of SQL, Business Objects, and Tableau preferred
  • Excellent written and verbal communication; able to collaborate with coworkers and external partners
