Associate Professor Clinical Practice - Family Medicine

Overview

You will lead the Department of Family Medicine education mission, shaping the residency program and undergraduate medical education. In this role you mentor faculty and residents, develop innovative education initiatives, and ensure standards align with ACGME and ABFM. You will collaborate with department and campus leadership to advance scholarship in education and strengthen the pipeline of family physicians. This is a mission-driven, high-impact leadership position at a renowned academic medical center. You will help create an educational culture that emphasizes curiosity, collaboration, and excellence.

Responsibilities
  • Provide oversight of departmental pathway programming, undergraduate medical education, and faculty development
  • Lead the Family Medicine Residency Program in alignment with ACGME requirements and institutional policies
  • Develop, implement, and evaluate the residency curriculum; support resident research and publications
  • Recruit, select, and mentor residents according to standards
  • Supervise faculty development for teaching, supervision, and resident growth
  • Ensure compliance with ACGME and ABFM accreditation; prepare for site visits
  • Evaluate residents and faculty; provide feedback and address performance issues
  • Foster a positive learning environment and resident well-being
  • Coordinate training sites, resources, and program support with leadership
  • Lead quality improvement, patient safety, and scholarly activity initiatives
  • Represent the residency program in committees and external forums
  • Manage program budget and resources with the Department Chair and GME Office
  • Maintain scholarly presence in education with peer-reviewed work
  • Collaborate with UTMB and community partners on education-focused initiatives
Key requirements
  • MD, DO, or MD/PhD
  • Board certified in Family Medicine
  • Proven research background with peer-reviewed publications
  • U.S. Citizenship or Employment Authorization
