Account Executive Officer, Senior Underwriter, Inland Marine

Overview

In this role, you will drive profitability and growth for a book of inland marine business, partnering with agents and brokers to secure new and renewal coverage. You will act as a technical resource, assess complex risk, and negotiate with clients to align with Travelers' risk appetite. You'll collaborate across internal teams to shape sales plans, pursue cross-selling, and develop agency strategies, with travel to meet partners. This position offers exposure to specialized inland marine products, regulatory considerations, and a path to leadership through mentorship and regional planning.

Responsibilities
  • Manage profitability, growth, and retention of an assigned book of business
  • Underwrite and negotiate complex customer accounts to minimize risk and maximize profitability
  • Cultivate and maintain internal cross-functional relationships to create sales plans and identify cross-selling opportunities
  • Foster external relationships with agents and brokers through regular in-person meetings to market and sell Travelers' products
  • Identify and capture new business opportunities using consultative marketing and sales skills
  • Develop and execute agency sales plans and partner with Managing Director to create region/group sales plans
  • May assist in training and mentoring less experienced Account Executives
  • Perform other duties as assigned
Key requirements
  • Bachelor's degree
  • Six to eight years of relevant underwriting experience with inland marine
  • Deep knowledge of inland marine products, regulatory environment, and local insurance market
  • Strong critical thinking and decision-making aligned with risk appetite
  • Excellent communication and negotiation skills with agents and brokers
  • CPCU designation
  • Four years of underwriting, claim, operations, risk assessment, actuarial, sales, product, or finance experience
