Overview In this role you lead the legal support function for Health Care & Life Sciences groups, ensuring skilled staff align with attorney workload. You partner with HR and Practice Management to staff, develop, and retain the legal support team. You analyze performance data to drive service improvements and oversee staffing across multiple locations. You will foster collaboration between attorneys, support staff, and administrative teams to enhance efficiency and morale. Responsibilities- Plan and manage legal support staff, including hiring, development, supervision, and performance management
- Lead and set direction for assigned practice groups' staff, including resource assignment, scheduling, and compensation decisions
- Ensure staff have necessary skills/training to support practice group needs
- Analyze performance data to identify improvements in service delivery
- Conduct regular check-ins with staff and attorneys, guiding policy and career development
- Improve work relationships, morale, productivity, and retention through engagement activities
- Coordinate with Legal Support Administration managers to ensure optimal workload distribution
- Foster relationships with administrative staff to identify workflow efficiencies and support needs
Key requirements- Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience
- Experience managing large legal support teams in a large law firm or professional services
- Minimum of five years of progressive management experience
- Experience leading resources across multiple individuals/locations
- Practice area knowledge in Intellectual Property docketing and litigation procedures is beneficial
- Strong collaborative leadership and relationship-building
- Excellent written and verbal communication
- Judgment and discretion in managing relationships
- Ability to influence across levels internally and externally
- Problem identification and creative, practical solutions
- Understanding of practice level technology (plus)
