Overview In this role you will oversee the technical and scientific operations of the general laboratory, microbiology, and point-of-care services, while assisting transfusion medicine oversight. You will ensure reliable day-to-day operation across the department and outreach locations, lead quality assurance and staff development, and collaborate with medical and nursing teams to support high-quality patient care. Responsibilities- Coordinate daily operations and address problems with the Director of Laboratory Services
- Maintain appropriate testing methods and verify performance specifications
- Ensure quality control, proficiency testing, and reference lab coordination
- Oversee staff development, performance appraisals, and scheduling
- Maintain and update lab policies, procedures, and safety practices
- Coordinate education and competency assessments for staff
- Participate in capital budgeting for equipment selection and long-range planning
- Serve as back-up liaison with other departments for policy and troubleshooting
- Provide educational support for med tech students and continuing education
- Maintain accreditation readiness with CAP, HFAP, OSHA, CMS, AABB
- Ensure instrument maintenance and troubleshooting records
- Assist with implementation of new testing procedures and labs
- Maintain visibility and accessibility to all shifts
- Assist with outreach and off-site lab operations
- Manage variance reports and corrective actions when needed
- Support quality improvement and patient care initiatives
Key requirements- Bachelor in Chemical, Physical, or Biological Science or Medical Technology (required)
- At least 4 years of general lab experience with high-complexity testing
- 3-5 years of hospital supervisory experience (preferred)
- MLS/MLT certification (required)
