Overview

Senior Technical Designer sought by a fast-growing, multi-brand design and manufacturing company in NYC. You will lead the technical design process across brands, drive fit decisions, and mentor a growing team. The role blends hands-on execution with cross-functional leadership, factory communication, and client-facing responsibilities. You'll shape product integrity and technical standards while collaborating with design, production, and merchandising to deliver quality garments at scale. Responsibilities
  • Own and lead the technical design process across multiple brands and product categories
  • Run and manage fit sessions end-to-end with confident decisions on fit, construction, and technical specs
  • Collaborate with Design, Production, and Merchandising to maintain design intent and product integrity
  • Communicate detailed fit comments, construction directions, specifications, and requirements to overseas factories
  • Interface with customers and retailers on fit-related communication, approvals, and technical needs
  • Manage fit timelines and sample flow; ensure reviews, revisions, and approvals occur on schedule
  • Schedule and manage fittings with fit model agencies; attend customer fittings when required
  • Utilize and maintain PLM systems; ensure information is accurate and up to date
  • Oversee, mentor, and develop junior technical design team members
  • Establish and improve technical standards, processes, and best practices
  • Proactively identify fit, construction, quality, or timeline issues and develop preemptive solutions
Key requirements
  • 10+ years of Technical Design experience in apparel
  • Expert-level understanding of garment fit, construction, specifications, and grading
  • Extensive experience in Women's apparel, including Wovens, Knits, Sweaters, and Outerwear
  • Working knowledge of Men's and Kids categories a plus
  • Plus Size fit experience a strong plus
  • Proven ability to independently lead fittings and make confident decisions
  • Strong experience communicating with overseas factories and sourcing partners
  • Experience working directly with retail customers preferred
  • PLM systems experience such as Centric, FlexPLM, or similar; training available on proprietary systems
  • Highly organized with the ability to manage multiple brands, categories, priorities, and deadlines
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Previous experience mentoring or managing junior team members preferred
