Manager, External Communications - Creative Content and Reputation

Overview

In this role you will shape and amplify H&R Block's external voice through strategic storytelling and brand reputation initiatives. You will lead cross-channel content-from video to social assets-that connects our brand to real customer needs. You will blend strategy with hands-on production, delivering engaging campaigns that reinforce our mission and support crisis or reputation management when needed. You'll work closely with stakeholders to ensure consistent brand messaging across owned, earned, and social channels. This is a hands-on leadership role at the intersection of narrative, visuals, and performance-driven communications.

Responsibilities
  • Lead external communications strategies to build brand awareness and protect reputation
  • Develop and execute PR, media relations, and enterprise storytelling initiatives
  • Create engaging content across social, digital, video, and earned channels
  • Produce video content from concept to post-production
  • Design platform-specific creative assets including graphics, motion content, and short-form video
  • Ensure content aligns with brand standards and messaging guidelines
  • Partner cross-functionally to deliver integrated communications across owned, earned, and social channels
  • Monitor brand reputation, identify risks, and support crisis communications when needed
  • Analyze content and campaign performance to optimize reach and engagement
  • Manage external agencies, media partners, and communications vendors/projects
Key requirements
  • 5+ years of experience in communications, public relations, or related field
  • Strong video production capabilities including filming, editing, post-production (Premiere Pro, After Effects or similar)
  • Advanced graphic design skills with Adobe Creative Cloud (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign) and ability to create content independently
  • Demonstrated success creating engaging content across social, digital, and multimedia channels with a strong portfolio
  • Experience in media relations, storytelling, and executing integrated communications campaigns
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills and ability to simplify complex topics
  • Highly organized and collaborative, ability to manage multiple priorities and influence cross-functional stakeholders
