Overview

As a Construction Manager at WSP in Houston, you will lead high-value, multi-disciplinary projects in power and energy, focusing on field delivery, risk management, and constructability. You'll mentor teams, advise executives, and coordinate with clients, designers, and regulators to ensure safe, compliant, and efficient project execution. Responsibilities
  • Provide technical leadership and oversight on major construction programs
  • Oversee field execution strategies and constructability solutions
  • Coordinate with contractors, design teams, public agencies, and clients
  • Evaluate technical submittals, changes, and value engineering proposals
  • Lead project controls integration and ensure accurate reporting of progress and costs
  • Champion site safety and regulatory compliance
  • Mentor senior staff and support talent development
  • Contribute to business development through proposals and client engagement
  • Guide preconstruction planning, logistics modeling, and phasing strategies
  • Advance digital construction tools and automated field reporting
  • Lead issues resolution and risk mitigation for complex field challenges
  • Support recruiting and onboarding of new staff and subcontractors
  • Direct QA/QC processes and corrective action plans
  • Facilitate executive-level progress reviews and client updates
  • Promote best practices and continuous improvement in construction delivery
  • Participate in industry forums and lead innovation in construction techniques
  • Align field operations with project baselines and milestones
  • Lead claims avoidance and provide technical documentation for audits
  • Collaborate with leadership to align strategy with client needs and outcomes
  • Perform additional duties as required by business needs
Key requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in construction management or closely related discipline, or proven equivalent experience
  • 12+ years of post-education construction management experience
  • Subject matter expert in construction delivery methods, phasing, and field operations
  • Proven track record leading large, complex programs in public and private sectors
  • Experience advising on project risks, logistics, and contract compliance
  • Strong knowledge of construction laws, codes, and safety requirements
  • Ability to interpret complex contracts, scopes, and project controls data
  • Experience resolving high-stakes disputes and supporting litigation or claims
  • Ability to influence executive stakeholders and organizational decisions
  • Proficiency with advanced CM tools and platforms (e.g., Procore, Autodesk Construction Cloud, digital dashboards)
  • Expertise in cost control, schedule management, and integrated delivery frameworks
  • Leadership in developing execution plans, risk registers, and contingency strategies
  • Experience providing executive guidance on performance metrics and continuous improvement
  • Strong mentorship and talent development experience
  • Ability to manage high-performing professionals and external consultants
  • Experience with cross-functional teams in fast-paced environments
  • Track record of implementing innovative field techniques and improving efficiency
  • Excellent written and verbal communication for diverse audiences
  • Familiarity with permitting and environmental compliance
  • Understanding of delivery models like CM/GC, design-build, and PPP
  • Experience supporting business development and contract negotiations
  • Commitment to ethical practices and regulatory compliance
  • Ability to work across geographies and client sectors to achieve integrated delivery
