Overview

In this role you will lead the strategic direction and administration of Barry University's benefits and wellness programs. You will ensure regulatory compliance and partner with HR leadership to shape policies and programs that support employees. You'll drive cost-effective, competitive benefits while advancing wellness initiatives across the campus. You will work with cross-functional teams, external counsel, and providers to implement impactful programs and improvements.

Responsibilities
  • Set the strategic direction for benefits and wellness programs and act as primary liaison with providers and regulators
  • Oversee benefit offerings (health, dental, vision, life, LTD, retirement), workers' comp, and compliance reporting
  • Evaluate benefits via benchmarking, surveys, and data analysis; propose improvements
  • Develop annual goals, action plans, and policies for benefits and wellness
  • Supervise staff, provide mentorship, and conduct performance reviews
  • Administer unemployment claims processes and analyze related data
  • Analyze health claim data to guide wellness initiatives aimed at reducing future costs
  • Manage budgets related to Benefits and Wellness including reporting and reconciliations
  • Serve on university and external committees (ASC, HRAC, WIN, Retirement, Benefits committees)
  • Prepare and file required reports with IRS, DOL, insurance regulators, and other agencies
  • Ensure compliance with ERISA, Health Care Reform, and related regulations
  • Coordinate with third-party administrators, legal counsel, and internal teams on compliance and program delivery
  • Administer Tuition Assistance Plans, FMLA, leave plans, and 403(b)/401(k) plans with related processes
Key requirements
  • 5-8 years of relevant experience
  • Advanced analytical skills
  • Strong written and oral communication skills
  • Ability to analyze statistical data for claims and spend analyses
  • Multitasking and project management capabilities
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and HRIS (e.g., Ellucian, Workday, Softdocs)
  • Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills; effective proofreading and editing
  • Ability to present benefit-related information clearly and listen actively
