Overview As Lead Software Engineer/Architect, you will own the detailed software ecosystem architecture and provide hands-on technical leadership across web, desktop, cloud, and device services. You'll translate customer workflows into measurable requirements, guide architecture decisions, and maintain production-ready code while mentoring the team. You'll act as the internal authority for externally developed software and shape the technology roadmap to improve security, scalability, and interoperability. This role blends deep technical execution with strategic steering to advance DYMO's software platform.
Responsibilities- Define and own detailed software ecosystem architecture across web, desktop, cloud services, devices, APIs/SDKs, data models, security, and interoperability.
- Translate system requirements and workflows into detailed software requirements and acceptance criteria.
- Make trade-off decisions within roadmap and architecture while contributing to system-level decisions.
- Serve as internal technical authority for externally developed software, including reviews and acceptance criteria.
- Write, review, debug, and ship production code; stay hands-on in the codebase.
- Define and maintain standards for code quality, security, scalability, and production readiness.
- Define technical interfaces across web, cloud, desktop, local services, and printer firmware.
- Own software security architecture and work with security teams on threat modeling and remediation.
- Evaluate emerging technologies to support the technology roadmap and platform capability.
- Evolve the ecosystem through reusable components and common APIs for cross-DYMO reuse.
- Lead architecture, design, code, security, and technical-quality reviews; document key decisions.
- Provide technical leadership through guidance, reviews, pairing, troubleshooting, and knowledge sharing.
- Provide technical estimates, plans, dependencies, and feasibility assessments within approved scope.
- Collaborate with SQA to enable automated and security testing; provide readiness evidence for releases.
Key requirements- Bachelor's degree in software engineering, computer science, computer engineering, or related field; advanced degree a plus
- 10+ years of software engineering experience architecting and delivering production web, desktop, cloud, and multi-tenant platforms
- Deep experience with Microsoft Azure cloud platforms, containers, messaging, identity and security, data services, secrets management, observability, and CI/CD
- Hands-on experience developing modern production web applications; React and TypeScript strongly preferred
- Expertise in API/SDK architecture, external-system interoperability, local device integration, and cloud-to-device integration; printers/IoT experience preferred
- Ability to derive detailed requirements and acceptance criteria from system requirements and workflows
- Experience directing partner-delivered software and communicating with technical and non-technical stakeholders
- Excellent written and verbal communication; ability to create architecture decision records and interface definitions
- Ability to influence and lead across functions without direct authority
- Experience applying secure software engineering practices, threat modeling, and vulnerability management
