Director of Construction and Capital Programs

Overview

In this role you lead HGSE's multi-year capital building and renewal program, aligning investments with campus framework and space strategy to support teaching, research, and community experiences. You collaborate with faculty, administrators, and partners to deliver projects on time and within budget, while upholding standards of quality, sustainability, and regulatory compliance. You drive strategic planning, governance, and stakeholder communication to enable impactful capital development. This is a mission-critical role at a premier educational institution.

Responsibilities
  • Develop and execute the School's multi-year capital building and renewal program
  • Oversee all project delivery phases from scope definition to occupancy
  • Monitor budgets, schedules, contingencies, and reporting; lead value engineering and risk mitigation
  • Establish project-specific communication plans and coordinate with stakeholders
  • Ensure construction impacts on campus operations are minimized
  • Align capital projects with HGSE Campus Framework and space strategy
  • Oversee space data systems (e.g., Revit) and ensure accurate facility information
  • Author and steward space policies, interior guidelines, and furniture standards
  • Lead or oversee RFPs, consultant/contractor selection, negotiations, and procurement
  • Ensure regulatory, permitting, accessibility, and inspection compliance
  • Contribute to annual capital budgeting, forecasting, and reporting
  • Supervise capital program staff and develop internal talent
  • Represent HGSE interests in university committees and external bodies
  • Conduct post-occupancy evaluations to feed future planning
Key requirements
  • 10+ years of capital project delivery, construction management, or capital program leadership
  • Bachelor's degree in architecture, planning, engineering, construction management, or related field
  • Extensive knowledge of construction processes, budgeting, cost estimating, value engineering, and building systems
  • Experience delivering complex capital projects on time and within budget
  • Working knowledge of sustainable design principles
  • Strong leadership and staff management experience
  • Excellent written, verbal, and presentation skills
  • Strong technical skills including MS Office, project management systems, scheduling tools, and space management databases; familiarity with BIM (Revit) preferred
