Overview As CFO, you will oversee all accounting and financial reporting for a growing commercial construction company. You will work with ownership and leadership to manage financial health, cash flow, risk, and strategic insights. You will lead construction-specific accounting, including job costing and WIP, while partnering with Project Managers to improve project profitability. The role combines hands-on leadership with systems integration to support growth and operational excellence.

Responsibilities- Lead all accounting and financial reporting functions
- Oversee construction accounting, job costing, WIP, and percentage-of-completion reporting
- Manage project forecasting, cost-to-complete projections, gross margins, and project profitability
- Partner with Project Managers to identify financial risks, cost overruns, and margin issues
- Lead annual budgeting, financial forecasting, and cash flow management
- Monitor working capital, billing, collections, retainage, and liquidity
- Maintain banking, bonding, insurance, CPA, and other external relationships
- Lead and develop the accounting team
- Provide timely financial analysis, reporting, and strategic recommendations to ownership
- Improve and integrate financial and construction technology systems
Key requirements- 8+ years of progressive accounting or financial leadership in construction
- Strong knowledge of construction accounting, job costing, WIP, and percentage-of-completion
- Experience with project forecasting, cost-to-complete, change orders, retainage, subcontractor commitments, billing, and collections
- Experience with budgeting, forecasting, cash flow management, and financial analysis
- Experience with banks, sureties, insurance providers, and outside CPA firms
- Strong Excel and analytical skills
- Excellent communication and relationship-building skills
- Ability to explain financial information clearly to Project Managers and non-financial leaders
- Hands-on, collaborative approach suited to a growing, owner-led construction company
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, or a related field
