Senior Purchaser - Solar (Construction)

Overview

In this role you will lead procurement programs to reduce costs while meeting schedule and quality targets. You will guide procurement practice, mentor junior staff, and drive standardized processes across the function. You will oversee bid evaluations, supplier submittals, and quality assurance activities to ensure robust contracts and performance. You will partner with engineering and project teams to present procurement status and support strategic supplier relationships. This is a hands-on role with leadership responsibilities and a focus on improving commercial outcomes for large-scale projects.

Responsibilities
  • Lead procurement plans and programs to reduce costs and meet schedule/quality goals
  • Mentor and guide junior purchasers and provide leadership in procurement practice
  • Direct preparation of procurement documents and agreements
  • Direct commercial bid evaluations and coordinate technical evaluations
  • Manage supplier submittals and facilitate execution of agreements
  • Oversee QA/QC activities and processes in procurement
  • Evaluate and negotiate procurement of equipment, materials, and subcontracts
  • Lead proposal and selection processes and facilitate pre-bid meetings
  • Evaluate supplier performance and implement process improvements
  • Review PO documents and procurement/expediting reports; submit packages to engineering
  • Present Project Procurement Status and Material Status Reports
  • Participate in recruitment and development of staff
  • Provide performance feedback to managers
  • Comply with policies and standards
  • Perform other duties as assigned
Key requirements
  • Bachelor Degree in Business, Supply Chain Management, Construction, Law or related field
  • 7 years direct purchasing experience or applicable substitute
  • Procurement, contract administration, and claims management experience
  • Excellent written and verbal communication; strong interpersonal, analytical, problem-solving and negotiation skills
  • Ability to apply intensive, diversified knowledge to broad assignments; experience devising new purchasing approaches
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office
  • Oracle Financial R12 experience preferred
  • Expert knowledge of procurement terms for engineered equipment; understanding of logistics, freight, and tax implications
  • CPM Certification or CPSM Certification preferred
