Overview In this role you will lead negotiations and provide strategic legal support across complex technology, procurement and outsourcing deals. You'll collaborate with procurement, technology, product and business teams to shape deal strategy, templates, and enterprise positions. You'll help manage risk and governance through supplier relationships and due diligence, contributing to American Express's growth with practical legal guidance. Responsibilities- Structure, draft, and negotiate complex cloud, AI, software, marketing tech, infrastructure, consulting, hardware, and services agreements
- Provide strategic legal counsel to cross-functional teams on contract and related issues
- Lead cross-functional teams to drive deal strategy, knowledge sharing, and consistent enterprise positions
- Advise on ongoing supplier relationships, governance, compliance, and risk management
- Support development and maintenance of agreement templates, fallback positions, negotiation playbooks, and toolkits
- Assist with due diligence, transition services agreements, and integration activities in acquisitions
- Track industry and market developments
- Collaborate with teams across the enterprise to manage contractual risks
Key requirements- J.D. with admission to practice in the United States
- Admission to the New York Bar in good standing or eligibility
- 5+ years of experience in a relevant practice group at a law firm and/or in-house
- Experience drafting and negotiating complex commercial agreements
- Ability to translate technical and regulatory concepts into plain English for non-lawyers
