Overview In this role you will drive profitable inland marine underwriting for Grange's Specialty unit, balancing risk selection with book management and agency relationships. You will support growth and profit objectives, adjust to loss trends, and mentor others within a collaborative team. Responsibilities- Select profitable risks by evaluating exposures against coverage requests
- Underwrite and manage a book to sustain profitable results amid changing risk profiles and loss trends
- Monitor new business, renewals, retention, and agency production to meet objectives and implement corrective actions if needed
- Build effective relationships with agents and customers through communication and visits
- Drive new business growth for Commercial Lines
- Maintain knowledge of policy forms, coverages, rating plans, and manuals for P&C lines
- Mentor and develop less experienced underwriters and provide training
- Ensure timely, accurate underwriting documentation and adherence to guidelines
- Execute agency management routines to grow a profitable book with each agency
- Develop and manage New Business pipeline and analyze submission activity to meet targets
- Support Sales/Relationship teams with training and product knowledge
- Attend and contribute to underwriting conferences and audits as SME
- Lead or participate in CI initiatives to improve efficiency and reduce waste
- Prepare reports to measure territory goals and performance
- Serve as informal leader within CLBU
Key requirements- Five+ years of complex inland marine underwriting experience across multiple states or equivalent P&C experience
- Contractors' equipment, motor truck cargo, and builders risk specialization
- Bachelor's degree and/or CPCU strongly desired (education not strictly required)
- Guidewire experience preferred
- Excellent communication, time management, decision making, and PC skills
- Ability to manage multiple tasks with deadlines and detail orientation
- Willingness to pursue ongoing industry education (CPCU, INS, AU, AIS, CIC, etc.)
- Strong negotiation and customer service skills
