Project Accountant - Accounting

Overview

In this role you drive project billing for DCCM's Houston accounting team, ensuring accurate financial terms and timely invoicing. You'll partner with Project Managers to handle contracts, change orders, and approvals, while maintaining digital project records and resolving billing variances. You will work across office locations and with client portals to deliver clean, well-supported invoices. This is a hands-on position that supports project managers and contributes to service excellence in civil engineering.

Responsibilities
  • Manage the project billing process end-to-end, including client inquiries and time verification according to policy
  • Communicate with Project Managers on contracts, change orders, and services related to billing
  • Open projects, proposals, and clients in the ERP system
  • Review contracts for financial terms and ensure accurate reflection on opening docs; flag discrepancies
  • Process draft and final invoices with necessary backup; upload to client portals as needed
  • Review consultant invoices and coordinate approvals with PMs
  • Maintain electronic filing for project documents (opening forms, contracts, proposals, budget changes)
  • Maintain ongoing communication to clear open items and obtain necessary approvals
  • Research and reconcile project issues and variances; support Project Managers
  • Perform additional assignments and coordinate with local offices
Key requirements
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Bachelor's degree in accounting or business preferred
  • 2-3 years billing experience in an Architectural/Engineering environment (preferred)
  • Experience with spreadsheets and accounting software
  • Knowledge of Deltek Vantagepoint Software or similar accounting platforms (a plus)
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills; good organizational abilities
  • Ability to work independently, manage priorities, and meet deadlines
