Overview In this role you will advise on tax-exempt status, governance, and compliance for nonprofit clients from the Manhattan office. You will review filings (990, 990-PF, 990-T), conduct tax research, and monitor deadlines to mitigate risks. You'll guide clients through IRS correspondence, audits, and regulatory examinations, and mentor junior staff. This position emphasizes cross-functional client advisory, quality assurance, and business development within a specialized nonprofit practice.
Responsibilities- Review federal and state tax filings for tax-exempt organizations (Forms 990, 990-PF, 990-T)
- Research tax regulations and emerging issues affecting nonprofit and tax-exempt entities
- Monitor compliance requirements, filing deadlines, and potential tax risks across client engagements
- Serve as primary advisor on tax-exempt status, UBIT, public charity classification, and private foundation matters
- Guide clients through IRS correspondence, audits, and regulatory examinations
- Provide strategic recommendations on governance, compliance, and operational tax considerations
- Mentor tax professionals through training, supervision, and performance development
- Evaluate workpapers and tax returns for quality and adherence to standards
- Coordinate multiple client engagements while meeting deadlines and service expectations
- Cultivate client relationships and support business development with advisory opportunities and industry expertise
Key requirements- Bachelor's degree in Accounting or related field
- 3+ years of public accounting tax experience
- Experience preparing Forms 990 and working with not-for-profit organizations preferred
- Strong technical research and analytical skills
