Overview

In this role you help lead Orrick's U.S. pro bono program, with a focus on California, collaborating with the Pro Bono Committee, leadership, attorneys, and community partners to develop meaningful opportunities and ensure impactful deliverables. You will identify pressing legal and community needs, staff opportunities, and coordinate activities across California to maximize both client and community benefits. The position emphasizes strategic program development, cross-office collaboration, and strong relationships with nonprofit and legal services organizations. Responsibilities
  • Develop and implement strategic priorities for the U.S. pro bono program, emphasizing California
  • Identify significant legal/community needs and create high-impact pro bono matters, programs, and partnerships
  • Staff pro bono opportunities and support matters from intake to completion
  • Coordinate pro bono activities in California and support other U.S. offices
  • Build and maintain relationships with legal services orgs, nonprofits, bar associations, clients, and community partners (California-focused)
  • Develop client/prospect collaboration opportunities on pro bono initiatives in California
  • Engage attorneys and staff through communications, training, and initiatives to encourage participation
  • Evaluate the program with leadership and Pro Bono Committee to identify improvements and allocate resources
Key requirements
  • J.D. degree or equivalent experience
  • Admission to practice in California
  • At least 8 years of relevant legal, pro bono, public interest, or program management experience
  • Experience with nonprofit organizations, legal services providers, law firms, bar associations, corporate legal departments
  • Strong understanding of the California pro bono landscape and familiarity with national pro bono organizations
