Overview As Director, Assistant General Counsel - IP, you will lead global IP protection for Cboe, aligning patents, trademarks and copyrights with business goals. You'll manage external counsel, handle regulatory considerations, and advise senior leadership on IP strategy and risk. The role blends innovation support with compliance in a highly regulated financial environment. You'll collaborate across divisions, use AI to improve efficiency, and may explore other legal areas as needed. This is a chance to shape Cboe's IP program on a global scale.

Responsibilities- Protect and leverage IP across patents, trademarks, and copyrights aligned with business objectives
- Prepare and prosecute patent and trademark filings with USPTO; assess registrability and freedom to operate
- Manage external counsel for IP matters, including litigation and foreign filings
- Review IP provisions in contracts; conduct IP due diligence
- Develop and implement IP policies and processes; educate stakeholders
- Stay current on IP developments and advise senior management
- Partner with cross-functional teams to support IP programs and relate initiatives
- Advise on IP issues related to fintech, software, AI/ML, data analytics, cloud, cybersecurity
- Maintain fluency in domestic and international IP laws; provide strategic business counsel
- Use AI to improve IP workflows and efficiency; support sanctions, AML, FCPA compliance as needed
- Assist with various legal projects and regulatory inquiries; collaborate with outside counsel
Key requirements- 8+ years as a registered attorney; at least 5 years as a patent attorney in tech-focused businesses
- Experience with IP (patents, copyrights, trademarks, trade secrets); financial institutions or regulated environments desirable
- Excellent written and oral communication; ability to interact with internal/external contacts
- Strong project management and stakeholder collaboration skills
- Prior financial services experience; background in IP litigation and international IP law preferred
- Attention to detail; ability to explain complex concepts for regulatory communications
- Independent and collaborative work style; team-oriented with receptiveness to feedback
- Analytical/problem-solving skills; strong time management and multitasking abilities
- Bar admission in at least one state; USPTO registration
