Overview

In this role you will provide strategic legal guidance to support Axos Bank's operations and compliance. You will work with internal teams and external counsel on governance, regulatory matters, contracts, and risk management to mitigate legal risks and enable business objectives. You will draft and negotiate key transaction documents, focusing on M&A, securitizations, and commercial real estate, while developing standardized forms for routine activities. The position combines fast paced problem solving with clear, practical counsel that advances the company's growth and compliance goals.

Responsibilities
  • Draft, review, and negotiate transaction documents focusing on mergers & acquisitions, securitizations, and commercial real estate
  • Develop and maintain standardized form contracts for routine business activities
  • Identify and mitigate legal risks to protect the Bank's interests
  • Ensure adherence to the Bank's legal policies and regulatory compliance
  • Provide timely, practical, solution-oriented legal support to all business units
Key requirements
  • Juris Doctor (JD) from a highly regarded law school
  • Minimum 5 years at a major law firm with focus on M&A and securities law, including drafting and negotiating transaction documents
  • Experience with real estate transactions is a plus
  • Familiarity with third-party service provider agreements is preferred
  • Strong problem-solving, analytical, and strategic planning abilities
  • Thrives in a fast-paced environment and can manage a diverse workload
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, and negotiation skills
  • Outstanding organizational skills and time management
  • Active California Bar membership in good standing, no disciplinary history
