Overview

In this Estimator role, you will develop accurate quantity and cost take-offs and prepare bid packages for Austin Commercial's Houston division. You'll clarify ambiguities in plans, review vendor proposals, and build reliable cost estimates to support winning bids. This position sits at the intersection of preconstruction and vendor coordination, helping ensure competitiveness and project feasibility. You will work with design professionals and key subcontractors to gather data, align on requirements, and drive accurate, timely estimates.

Responsibilities
  • Quantity/cost take-offs
  • Developing clarifications and assumptions
  • Identify conflicts/missing data and obtain clarifications from design professionals
  • Distribute bid documents
  • Develop unit costs
  • Advancing knowledge of building designs, systems, and materials
  • Understand project requirements
  • Obtain and review proposals and quotes from subcontractors or vendors
  • Detailed review of specifications to identify onerous requirements
  • Build relationships with key vendors (subcontractors, suppliers, architects)
Key requirements
  • 3 to 5 years of estimating experience
  • BS/BA in engineering, construction science, architecture, or relevant discipline preferred or equivalent experience
  • Familiarity with construction materials, means, and methods
  • Strong math and technology ability with an analytical mindset
  • Proficient in relevant estimating and quantity take-off software
  • Outstanding communication and negotiation abilities
  • Thoroughness and reliability
  • Excellent organizational skills
  • Legally authorized to work in the United States (no visa sponsorship)
