Overview

In this role, you will lead and protect the Owner's interests on major capital construction projects for AEP facilities, managing programs from planning through closeout. You'll partner with sponsors and executives, coordinate internal teams, and ensure delivery within budget and schedule. You will apply formal project management methods to drive scope, cost, and risk controls across multi-contractor environments. This position offers impact at scale, contributing to safe, efficient capital delivery and customer-focused outcomes. AEP seeks a proactive leader who can mentor others and advance continuous improvement in project execution.

Responsibilities
  • Partner with project sponsors and executives to define and initiate projects
  • Assemble, lead, and manage internal project team
  • Develop project scope, cost, and schedule plans
  • Coordinate with Procurement on bid processes, contracts, and awards
  • Manage contractors to deliver contracted scope on time and within budget
  • Lead risk identification, mitigation, and tracking
  • Ensure proper turnover of project documentation
  • Close out contracts and work orders upon project completion
  • Develop and manage procurement plans for outside resources
  • Lead and mentor other project managers and sub-team PMs
  • Conduct project performance reviews and closeout analyses
  • Conform to AEP project management standards and processes
  • Prepare and present status updates to stakeholders
  • Ensure safety and Zero Harm through adherence to the System Safety Process
  • Support and manage project and outage plans, schedules, and budgets
  • Foster cross-functional collaboration with plant staff, vendors, and customers
  • Travel as needed to support assignments
  • Safely perform light physical duties as required
Key requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Engineering, Business, Project Management, Computer Science, or related field with five years of qualified experience; or an Associate's degree with seven years; or a High School Diploma/GED with nine years; or two years of experience as a Project Manager or equivalent competencies
  • PMP certification is preferred but not required
  • Valid state driver's license
  • Experience in project management, major construction field experience, project controls, and vendor management
  • Knowledge of construction safety, negotiations, scope development, cost estimating, contracting, and risk management
  • Experience in utilities, commercial nuclear power, or IT systems is favorable
