Overview In this role you will provide legal support for residential mortgage origination, covering conventional, government-insured, jumbo, and customized programs. You will advise business, operations, compliance, risk, and product teams on mortgage-lending laws and regulatory developments to minimize risk. You will contribute to product development, underwriting practices, and disclosures while collaborating on technology-modernization and digital mortgage initiatives. This position offers impact through guiding strategic initiatives and ensuring compliant, efficient origination workflows.
Responsibilities- Provide legal advice on conventional and government-insured residential mortgage origination activities
- Counsel on jumbo, high net worth, asset-based, and other customized mortgage programs
- Analyze mortgage product development, underwriting, pricing, disclosures, advertising, and digital applications
- Collaborate with compliance, risk, audit, operations, and product teams to mitigate legal/regulatory risk
- Support regulatory examinations, inquiries, audits, investigations, and remediation efforts
- Participate in strategic projects involving technology modernization, digital mortgage initiatives, automation, and AI-enabled improvements
Key requirements- Active membership in at least one state bar
- Minimum 6 years of experience practicing law with substantial residential mortgage lending experience
- Experience advising on mortgage origination products and processes
