Overview You will bridge legal strategy and engineering to accelerate early moonshots at X. You'll shape unique IP strategies, de-risk radical concepts, and build high-value patent pipelines that support long-term ventures. Collaborating with Early Pipeline and Legal teams, you translate breakthroughs into actionable IP guidance while advancing portfolio strategy. Your work helps identify white space, align with product roadmaps, and drive technology-driven business outcomes.
Compensation / Benefits Responsibilities- Assess viability of incoming moonshot pitches and define project scope
- Lead IP harvesting sessions and translate engineering innovations into differentiators
- Conduct IP landscaping, white space analysis, and market signal guidance
- Support global IP strategy design and asset assessment to build competitive moats
- Serve as a liaison between engineering, product, and legal, running patent roundtables and trainings
- Create and manage Invention Disclosure Forms (IDFs) and guide external drafting/prosecution
- Perform initial FTO screening and prior art landscape for new technologies
- Collaborate on AI-powered tooling and SOPs for white space identification
Key requirements- 5+ years in patent preparation, prosecution, and IP landscaping
- Active USPTO registration (Patent Agent or Patent Attorney)
- Technical undergraduate degree in an engineering or scientific discipline
- Experience building/scaling patent portfolios for deep-tech startups, university tech-transfer, or spin-outs
- Broad technical literacy with ability to pivot across domains
- Strong ability to communicate complex tech to PhD-level researchers and cross-functional teams
- Comfort operating in high-autonomy, fast-paced startup environments
- Interest in leveraging AI and generative prompting for IP workflows
