Overview In this role you drive the design phase to translate the owner's vision into viable design and construction parameters. You lead a cross-functional design team, balancing scope, budget, and schedule while maintaining a high standard of professionalism and confidentiality. You will coordinate with owners, architects, engineers, and trade partners, sometimes across two projects, to ensure a smooth transition to construction operations. This is a hands-on, leadership-focused position that shapes project outcomes and team growth.

Responsibilities- Lead the design phase with emphasis on customer experience, financial performance, schedule, estimating, and planning to ensure smooth construction handoff
- Align scope and budget across the project, manage budget trends, and communicate resources
- Create and supervise project schedules and ensure team accountability for milestones
- Obtain regulatory approvals and permits and align design documents with the project execution plan
- Prepare bid packages and contract manuals; identify and resolve design/specification issues
- Develop and implement project margin plans; act as primary contact with owners, architects, engineers, and trade partners
- Foster an integrated team experience through clear communication and collaboration
- Mentor and develop design phase team members; support diversity and inclusivity in team dynamics
- Coach and provide feedback, manage performance, and handle related duties as assigned
- Travel up to 100% and ensure alignment with Mortenson policies
- Manage project success factors for customers, design partners, and Mortenson team
Key requirements- Bachelor's degree in Construction, Civil, Construction Management, Estimating, or equivalent field
- Minimum of eight (8) years relevant experience
- Strong teamwork, initiative, communication, problem-solving, and leadership skills
- Detail-oriented with ability to manage multiple project tasks
- Basic understanding of construction law and standard business practices
- Proficient in Microsoft Office, project, and relevant web applications at an intermediate level
- Positive, professional attitude and strong customer service skills
- Ability to interpret and communicate Mortenson policies
- Active listening and openness to diverse input and feedback
- Ability to travel up to 100%
