Corporate Counsel, Commercial Contracts

Overview

In this role, you will partner with business leadership to provide pragmatic, risk-aware counsel on complex commercial transactions and negotiate key agreements. You will help drive sound risk management and contribute to a fast-paced, tech-driven environment. As a hands-on legal generalist, you'll shape templates, playbooks, and processes while supporting cross-functional teams to protect business interests and enable growth. This position offers visibility and impact within Nextpower's mission to accelerate the global energy transition.

Responsibilities
  • Provide legal guidance to business unit leaders and mitigate risk to enable successful outcomes
  • Draft and negotiate commercial and ancillary agreements
  • Support and advise the legal commercial team and other internal business units
  • Collaborate to implement process improvements and update internal playbooks and templates
  • Manage internal SLAs and prioritize in a fast-moving environment
  • Own specific legal projects and develop subject matter expertise for customer contracts
  • Review solicitations and strategize responses, drafting sections on legal topics
  • Engage outside counsel when needed
  • Assist with complex terms such as liability limitations, indemnification, and termination rights
  • Participate in Legal Department discussions on corporate policies and regulatory updates
  • Contribute to continuing legal education and legal updates on changing laws
Key requirements
  • Juris Doctorate from an accredited law school
  • Licensed to practice law in the United States and active state bar membership
  • Minimum of 7 years of experience as outside commercial contracts counsel
  • Experience advising executive clients on business and transactional matters
  • Demonstrated leadership in a technology-driven company context
  • Hands-on legal generalist capability
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Ability to analyze complex issues and present executive-level recommendations
  • Ability to build strong client relationships while maintaining compliance independence
