Overview As Construction Director for the Self-Perform Substation group, you lead strategic initiatives, client strategy, and large-team project management to deliver profitable, safe, and high-impact construction programs. You guide cross-functional coordination among business lines, pre-construction, constructors, and subcontractors to improve execution and competitive offerings. The role blends business development with technical leadership and commercial negotiation to achieve financial targets. You will shape pursuit development and regional office execution aligned with Burns & McDonnell's values.
Responsibilities- Provide executive leadership for Construction/Design-Build strategic initiatives and client strategy
- Direct pricing, cost tracking, and execution planning for projects, including reporting on pricing and labor productivity
- Lead commercial negotiations across major pursuits and coordinate between Business Line Managers and Director of US Sales
- Align CDB Pre-Construction Execution, Constructors, AZCO, and subcontractors to optimize installation rates and execution efficiency
- Oversee pursuits team and early project development to ensure effective staffing and delivery
- Drive Objectives and Key Results for the Global Practice and regional offices
- Guide business development efforts in identifying and vetting projects and clients
- Manage relationships to implement guidelines and executable business plans
- Lead pursuit development plans to advance identified strategies
- Provide senior-level technical input and industry expertise across the Global Practice
- Monitor and present financial performance including sales and revenue forecasts
- Ensure stakeholder alignment with corporate initiatives and regional office goals
Key requirements- 13 years of relevant consulting experience, preferably in construction or project management
- Expert experience in client and business development
- Expert experience in managing projects including proposal development, contract negotiations, planning, design coordination, budgeting, scheduling, and client coordination
- Excellent facilitation, collaboration, organization, and problem-solving skills
- Proven track record of budget savings and profit margin improvement on projects
- Strong leadership, influence, and management capabilities
- Excellent planning and analytical skills
- Exceptional written and oral communication with ability to present complex information to diverse stakeholders
- Expert knowledge of project management methodologies and tools including Microsoft Project or equivalent
- Professional Engineer (PE) License preferred
