GIS Field Service Engineering Site Manager

Overview

In this role, you will lead on-site GIS installation, testing, and commissioning for high-voltage equipment up to 550 kV, supporting utility and industrial facilities. You will act as Hitachi Energy's on-site representative, coordinating with customers, subcontractors, and project teams to ensure safety, quality, and schedule. You'll oversee field teams, perform tests and inspections, and document field results to support grid reliability and project success. This position offers hands-on impact in critical power infrastructure with a focus on safety and collaboration. You will work across installation, testing, and commissioning phases to drive successful project delivery.

Responsibilities
  • Plan and manage on-site installation, testing, and commissioning of HV GIS equipment (69kV-550kV)
  • Represent Hitachi Energy on-site to customers, subcontractors, inspectors, and stakeholders
  • Supervise field teams and subcontractors to ensure quality, productivity, schedule, and safe work
  • Ensure adherence to drawings, specifications, and project requirements
  • Perform and document field testing (SF6 leak detection, gas analysis, timing, power factor, contact resistance)
  • Conduct inspections to assess maintenance needs and repairs for resource planning
  • Plan and participate in on-site progress meetings and coordinate daily field activities
  • Prepare clear field documentation, reports, and project records
  • Ensure compliance with external and internal regulations and guidelines
Key requirements
  • 10+ years in field service or construction management, preferably HV substations or equipment (69kV-550kV)
  • Experience supervising erection and testing activities for HV substations
  • Technical certificate or Associate degree in electrical or mechanical related field
  • Knowledge of safety procedures for energized HV substations
  • Valid driver's license and OSHA 10 certification (or ability to obtain)
  • Work authorization in the United States
