Overview Verkada seeks a Product Counsel to guide legal aspects of its hardware and software products. You will partner with product, engineering, supply chain, and marketing to ensure regulatory compliance and risk-aware product launches. Your work will span domestic and international compliance, government procurement, and licensing for alarm products, helping scale a fast-growing AI-powered security platform. This role emphasizes practical risk mitigation and cross-functional collaboration across jurisdictions. Responsibilities- Advise product, engineering, supply chain, and marketing on legal aspects of development, launch, and compliance
- Design and implement company-wide compliance programs and practical risk mitigations
- Simplify complex regulatory frameworks into actionable guidance to accelerate product delivery
- Enhance product launch protocols to ensure regulatory protection and compliance
- Serve as SME on product-related regulatory issues, including import/export and government procurement (NDAA/TAA/BAA)
- Develop global internal controls, risk monitoring, and audit frameworks for OFAC, ITAR, and AI-related export controls
- Monitor worldwide regulatory developments and assess impact on Verkada products
Key requirements- J.D. degree from ABA-approved law school and bar admission in good standing
- 6+ years of legal experience across regulatory, IP, product counseling, marketing, and transactional work (in-house preferred)
- Experience advising multinational, fast-growing hardware and software companies
- Experience developing/completing compliance programs for hardware and software products, including alarms
- Expertise in federal procurement for hardware/software (e.g., NDAA, FedRAMP, FIPS), alarm product licensing, or EU/connected devices regulation
- Excellent legal/business judgment and ability to provide practical guidance
- Proven track record of managing multiple projects and meeting deadlines
