Overview

In this role you will provide cross-functional legal support to Pattern Energy's field, commercial, and corporate teams, focusing on energy trading, operations, and project agreements. You will partner with Operations, Supply Chain, Engineering, Asset Management, and Commercial teams to advise on contract structuring, risk, and compliance. You'll help navigate fast-moving commercial matters while enabling timely business execution in the renewable energy sector. This is a trusted advisor role at the intersection of law and business, offering impact across trading, projects, and corporate initiatives.

Responsibilities
  • Draft, review, and negotiate commodity trading agreements (EEI, ISDA, WSPP) and advise on trading-related matters, including credit, collateral, and risk allocation
  • Draft and negotiate MSAs, O&M, equipment supply, turbine, and land-related agreements; address warranty, performance, and dispute issues
  • Negotiate PPAs, interconnection and transmission agreements; support project and operations teams with contract solutions
  • Draft, review, and manage NDAs, vendor/consulting/procurement agreements; provide practical legal support for internal clients
  • Collaborate with Finance, Tax, Accounting, Insurance, and Supply Chain to ensure contract alignment with commercial objectives and risk frameworks
  • Provide actionable legal guidance for complex operational matters and manage legal workflows independently
Key requirements
  • Juris Doctor (JD) with active license
  • 7-10+ years of legal experience, preferably in energy or commodities
  • Experience with EEI, ISDA, WSPP, and drafting/negotiating complex commercial agreements
  • Support for operations and supply chain functions; strong understanding of indemnities and liability structures
  • Strong commercial acumen and business judgment
  • Effective drafting, negotiation, and communication skills
  • Ability to manage high-volume workloads and competing priorities
  • Commodity trading agreements (EEI, ISDA, WSPP)
  • Contract lifecycle management
  • Negotiation of complex commercial agreements
