Overview As Trader, Natural Gas, you will build and lead a lean trading team to secure reliable, cost-effective gas for SpaceX operations. You will design physical and financial trading strategies to reduce risk and support launches, production, and infrastructure. You'll monitor markets, manage positions, and deliver measurable P&L and performance improvements. This role blends fast execution with strategic supply planning in a high-stakes, innovative environment. You'll play a key part in enabling SpaceX's growth toward multi-planetary ambitions.
Responsibilities- Establish and lead a new natural gas trading team
- Develop and execute trading strategies (directional, spreads, physical, financial) for gas
- Identify pricing inefficiencies and manage P&L
- Manage trading positions against fundamental, weather, regulatory signals
- Maintain discipline in risk management and trade execution
- Provide market intelligence on natural gas and related markets
- Benchmark and track performance, budget alignment, continuous improvement
- Recruit, mentor, and scale traders and analysts; foster ownership and accountability
- Build relationships with engineering, finance, legal, and external market participants
- Conduct market/ supplier/ counterparty analysis for strategic sourcing and supply continuity
- Execute RFIs/RFPs, negotiate multi-million contracts, manage terms and risk
- Lead scheduling, planning, and model enhancement for supply/demand analysis
- Ensure compliance with risk, regulatory, and ITAR-related frameworks
Key requirements- Natural gas or energy commodity trading experience (4+ years)
- Material cost control or energy markets analysis
- Engineering or finance related to energy commodities
- Strong analytical skills with large datasets (Excel, SQL, PowerBI)
- Knowledge of risk management, position management, and related regulations
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities
- Leadership and team-building experience
- Effective communication and collaboration with cross-functional teams
