Overview

As Counsel, Contracts & Distribution you will centralize commercial contracting in a regulated P&C environment. You will guide risk-aware business decisions while negotiating technology, vendor, and distribution agreements. You'll partner with Procurement, Technology, Marketing, Compliance, and Insurance teams to scale contracts and improve processes. You will translate legal concepts into practical guidance to support responsible growth. This role offers a hands-on opportunity to shape contracting operations and compliance across a fast-evolving insurtech business.

Responsibilities
  • Draft, review, and negotiate a broad range of agreements including SaaS, AI, vendor, NDAs, and distribution agreements
  • Advise stakeholders on contractual risk, regulatory considerations, and business implications
  • Independently manage high-volume contracting from intake to execution
  • Provide risk assessments and recommended paths forward to internal stakeholders
  • Escalate high-risk issues with practical solutions
  • Improve contracting workflow and process efficiencies
  • Maintain and update templates, playbooks, and standard forms
  • Establish contracting metrics to improve turnaround time and reduce risk
  • Develop self-service tools and playbooks for business partners
  • Provide guidance on 50-state insurance regulations and consumer protection laws
  • Support marketing reviews with compliant recommendations
  • Advise on data privacy, cybersecurity, and AI-related considerations in vendor agreements
  • Collaborate with legal colleagues on regulatory initiatives
  • Translate complex legal concepts into actionable business advice
  • Build strong cross-functional relationships to address legal considerations early in contracting lifecycle
Key requirements
  • J.D. and active U.S. bar license
  • 5+ years of relevant legal experience (law firm and/or in-house)
  • Experience negotiating technology and commercial agreements
  • Experience in the insurance industry or advising procurement/vendor management functions
  • Strong understanding of data privacy, cybersecurity, and regulatory risk in a P&C environment
