Senior Counsel - Environmental, Health & Safety

Overview

In this role you will provide in-house legal support focused on environmental, health and safety matters, helping to shape compliant programs and resolve regulatory issues. You will advise field operations and management, oversee EHS litigation and enforcement actions, and partner with corporate teams to ensure OSHA and environmental compliance. The position sits in the Deputy General Counsel's office, offering strategic influence across business units. Responsibilities
  • Advise on compliance with federal and state environmental laws (CERCLA, RCRA, Clean Air Act, Clean Water Act, TSCA, OSHA)
  • Manage EHS litigation, regulatory actions, investigations, and proceedings
  • Serve as internal liaison between field operations and Deputy General Counsel on EHS matters
  • Counsel on permitting, reporting, remediation, and environmental due diligence for transactions
  • Collaborate with corporate and operations teams to ensure OSHA compliance across facilities
  • Monitor regulatory changes and advise on operational impact
  • Manage incident reporting protocols to ensure timely agency reporting
  • Review incident data to identify trends and support safety initiatives
Key requirements
  • Juris Doctorate (JD) from an accredited law school
  • Active admission to at least one U.S. state bar, in good standing
  • Minimum of four (4) years of full-time, relevant legal experience in environmental, health and safety law
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills to counsel non-legal clients
  • Ability to travel to operational facilities as needed
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook) and intranet/internet tools
