Overview In this role you will lead and manage high-exposure litigation for a Fortune 100 insurer, covering commercial, construction defect, insurance defense, and subrogation matters. You act as lead counsel or a key trial team member, shaping strategies, managing cases end-to-end, and upholding client expectations and standards. You will mentor junior attorneys and collaborate with claims professionals to deliver exceptional legal services. This position blends sophisticated advocacy with proactive case management in a dynamic, technology-enabled environment.

Responsibilities- Independently manage a complex caseload across commercial litigation, construction defect, insurance defense, and subrogation from inception through resolution
- Lead trial counsel in jury trials, bench trials, arbitrations, mediations, and administrative proceedings
- Develop and execute litigation strategies addressing liability, damages, coverage, risk transfer, indemnity, and subrogation recovery
- Provide timely, fact-based liability exposure, damages, settlement authority, and trial strategy evaluations
- Manage cases aligned with Nationwide Trial Division methodologies, client expectations, and cost-efficiency
- Maintain expertise on developments affecting relevant legal disciplines
- Build strong relationships with claims professionals, clients, experts, and business partners
- Mentor and develop junior attorneys and legal staff; support business development and reputation of the Trial Division
- Perform other duties as assigned
Key requirements- Minimum 15+ years of civil litigation experience
- Extensive experience in insurance defense and subrogation litigation
- Significant experience handling complex commercial litigation and construction defect matters
- Proven success managing high-exposure litigation through discovery, motions, mediation, arbitration, settlements, and trial
- Experience representing insurers, insureds, self-insured entities, contractors, subcontractors, developers, property owners, and commercial clients (strongly preferred)
- Strong knowledge of commercial litigation, construction defect law, insurance defense, subrogation, and civil procedures
